About Us
YMTC (Youth Musical Theater Company) is dedicated to providing exceptional training to young performing artists by producing professional musical theater.
From the time it incorporated as a non-profit in 2004, YMTC has grown into a year round production company, producing three fully mounted musicals as well as small scale workshop productions and training workshops throughout the year. Many YMTC graduates have gone on to study music and theater at some of the best conservatories in the United States and abroad; all of them, wherever they go, take with them confidence, empathy, responsibility, and the capacity to imagine.
We passionately believe that when young people have opportunities to participate in exceptional training in the theater, they are becoming not only the next generation of artists and arts appreciators, but the next generation of engaged citizens: empowered to pay attention, communicate, and energetically participate in a collaborative process.

A little about our history:

YMTC is a successor to Youth Musical Theater Commons (formerly known as Middle School Musical Theater) founded by parent, community organizer, and theater lover, Bruce Wicinas. Bruce had joined forces with the Gilbert and Sullivan Troupe (a BUSD-based group that ran from 1967 to 1999) for several years, and then co-founded the Youth Musical Theater Commons in 1997. Throughout its various incarnations, Bruce volunteered his services to YMTC. He was producer, technical director, set designer, builder, and all-around community leader. Without his dedication, passion, hardwork and financial support, YMTC would not be here today.
